Tales of Symphonia: The Animation (テイルズ・オブ・シンフォニア) is a four-episode OVA based on the RPG game of the same name. Episode 1 was release June 8th, 2007 and each episode will be release every 2 months. Being a fan of the game, I decided to give the first episode a try.

The anime begins in a world called Sylvarant which is on the verge of perishing. Sixteen year old Colette Brunel is the ‘Chosen One’, destined to go on a journey to regenerate Sylvarant. She’s  currently accompanied and protected by:

  • Lloyd Irving, Colette’s childhood friend.
  • Genis Sage, Colette’s childhood friend
  • Raine Sage, Genis older sister & school teacher of Iselia (their hometown).
  • Kratos Aurion, A mercenary hired by priests.

I was pleased on how the first episode turned out. Great fluid animation, great action sequences and great voice acting. Some of what happened in the game was excluded in the anime and their were some minor changes as well, but nothing too big. Fans of the game and even non-fans should definitely watch this episode.
